Project overview
A busy professional in Bow came to us with a small courtyard that needed to work much harder. The brief was ambitious: fit in storage, comfortable seating, and proper planting, all while creating a peaceful retreat from city life. The owners also wanted more privacy from overlooking neighbours.
We designed a courtyard garden that delivers on every count. Hit-and-miss slatted fencing and a row of pleached trees create privacy without blocking light. The planting scheme is shade-friendly and soft, and the lighting makes the space usable well into the evening during summer.
Design process and result
Small urban spaces need smart design to feel generous rather than cramped. We started with a detailed site survey and spent time understanding exactly what our client needed from the space. Then we worked out how to fit everything in without the garden feeling cluttered.
