A complete transformation of a neglected N16 garden into a versatile family space with multiple terraces, lawn, play area and bold planting.

Project overview
This Stoke Newington garden had been left to its own devices for over 20 years when we first visited. The owners wanted a space that worked for the whole family: somewhere to entertain, a hidden spot for the kids to play, and planting that would look good throughout the year without demanding every weekend.
We designed two terraces at different levels, a circular lawn that draws you through the space, and generous borders packed with year-round interest. There's clever storage tucked away and a play area hidden from the main entertaining space. This large garden transformation shows what's possible with thoughtful design.
Design process and result
The brief was "Cotswold to California" and we ran with it. The planting scheme shifts as you move through the garden: soft, playful shapes near the house become more architectural and structural towards the back. Evergreens keep things looking good through winter, and we put together a bulb programme that brings colour from late January onwards.
Colour was important throughout, not just in the planting. We added a pink feature wall and charcoal fencing that really makes the greenery pop. The boundaries feel like part of the design rather than something to hide.
